Brian Parks-Writer

Brian Parks is an American playwright whose work has been produced in New York City as well as several cities across the U.S. The plays have also been produced internationally, in London, Edinburgh, Ireland, Adelaide, Heidelberg, Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne, and Oberzeiring, Austria. His play Americana Absurdum helped launch the New York International Fringe Festival in 1997, where it also won the Best Writing Award. Americana Absurdum went on to win a Fringe First award at the 2000 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and became one of the first plays staged at London’s Menier Chocolate Factory theater. His other plays include Goner, The Invitation, Imperial Fizz, American Poodle (Splayfoot), Suspicious Package, Out of the Way, The Professor, The House, and The Golfer. In New York City, he has worked with the Present Company, Clancy Productions, and Word Monger theater companies, and he has an ongoing relationship with the Renegade Theatre Experiment in San Jose, California, which has produced three of his plays. Americana Absurdum, Goner, American Poodle (Splayfoot), and Imperial Fizz have all appeared at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, staged at the Assembly Rooms. Imperial Fizz has been published by Josef Weinberger, Ltd., London, and The Invitation has been published in the collection Plays and Playwrights 2010, by the New York Theater Experience, Inc., New York City. Brian Parks has also served as the theater editor of The Village Voice in New York City, and as Chairman of the Obie Awards. He is a graduate of Brown University and holds an M.F.A. in Playwriting from Brooklyn College. He has been a playwright in residence in his own residences.
